advocacy

AA (Vic) represents the rights and interests of members to all levels of government. In conjunction with our parent entity, the Victorian branch of the Australian Hotels Association, we leverage long standing relationships with parliamentarians who hold relevant portfolio responsibilities, to ensure they have regard to the hoteliers’ interests when making policy decisions that impact our sector.

Priorities

AA (Vic) represents the rights and interests of our members to all levels of government to ensure politicians have regard to these when making policy decisions that impact our sector. In doing so, we realise the need to remain apolitical.

Our local Victorian focus also has national reach, when working with our Accommodation Australia interstate and territory colleagues on matters of national significance to Australia’s accommodation hotel network.

Ensure that regulated commercial accommodation providers remain exempt from the Victorian short stay levy. Advocate for the imposition of caps on night availability for unhosted short term rental accommodation and compulsory property registration and enforcement.

Promote workforce development models that are more reflective of current industry needs e.g. integrate apprenticeships alongside visa workers within kitchens, to help address industry training and skills shortages. Support and celebrate diversity and inclusion in industry hiring and workplace practices.

Destination development

Assist members to achieve their sustainability goals and promote their successes, including providing access to a training and certification program, as guest sustainability expectations evolve.

Technology and Innovation

Continued knowledge sharing regarding the evolution and impact of new technologies on hospitality service delivery models.
